Learn To Skate

Learn to Skate with York Ice Arena! Our skating school welcomes new students year-round into our nationally-affiliated Learn to Skate program. We have classes appropriate for kids as young as 3 through adults of all ages!

Special Olympics

Join one of the largest and most historic Special Olympics Skating Programs in the U.S. every Monday evening, starting early November through the end of February.

Learn to Skate Camp

06/23/2025 – 06/28/2025

9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Our Learn to Skate (LTS) Camp is designed for recreational skaters, figure skaters, and hockey players (age 4+) who want to learn how to skate, discover and practice new skills both on and off the ice, make new friends, and have fun! No experience is necessary. Skaters will be busy all day – both on and off the ice – with many activities!

Each camp day will consist of:

  • On ice activities and group lessons

  • Free skate time (supervised)

  • Off-ice activities including arts + crafts, yoga, exercise, game play, and more!

  • 15-minute private on-ice lessons are available for an additional cost ($20) with any of our coaches/counselors. If you are interested in private lessons during camp, email Liz (LLocker@yorkskate.com) for more information and to schedule your lessons.

All campers must have a current Learn to Skate USA number for the 2024/25 season (www.learntoskateusa.com).

Detailed emails will be sent about a week prior to camp.

Freestyle Sessions

It is recommended to purchase your ice time online on the day of the session you choose to attend.
 

Always double-check the ice schedule at the York Ice Arena Website.

Freestyle Session Options:

 

  • 1-Hour Open Freestyle (WRFSC Members): $15

  • 1-Hour Open Freestyle (Non-Member): $20

  • 2-Hour Open Freestyle (WRFSC Members): $25

  • 2-Hour Open Freestyle (Non-Member): $30

Our Goal:

To provide instruction and equipment to those otherwise unable to afford the costs associated with ice skating.  Students will be able to learn ice skating skills and participate in classes that help promote a healthy lifestyle and social development.

Our Policies: 

The foundation does not discriminate based on gender, age, ethnicity, race, or athletic ability.

 

The foundation is available to those of Pre-K age through grade 12.

Learn To Skate Program

Learn to Skate with York Ice Arena!

 

Our skating school welcomes new students year-round into our nationally-affiliated Learn to Skate (LTS) program. We have classes appropriate for kids as young as 3 through adults of all ages! Learn to Skate is a great introduction to skating--whether your goals are figure skating, ice hockey, or recreational skating--this is the place to start! Our sessions are 45-minute classes that run for 7 weeks.

Learn to Skate Class Schedule:

(Totsicles & Homeschool)

Wednesdays, 5:30pm - 6:15 pm

Totsicle "Parent and Me"
 

This class (7-week sessions with 1-hour classes) is for kids ages 3 through 6 and their grown-ups! Learn the basics of ice skating together through fun and games in small group lessons. Enjoy time together and with other parents and tots!

Homeschool Learn To Skate


This class (7 week sessions with 1 hour classes) is for homeschool students! We are now offering daytime Learn to Skate classes for Homeschoolers of all ages! Just as with our other Learn to Skate group lessons, homeschool skaters will progress through the Learn to Skate USA Curriculum. Skaters will have 30 minutes of guided instruction and 30 minutes to practice skills. Earn your physical education credits on the ice in the new year!

Aspire

 

This 14-week session (1-hour classes) is for skaters in Basic 4 or above, and helps transition between affordable group lessons and more expensive private lessons. Skaters will begin with off-ice (be sure to wear sneakers and bring a water bottle! ) and then will conclude with on-ice. This program introduces skaters to moves in the field, edge classes, program components, choreography, beginner spins, beginner jumps, and other skating disciplines.

Program Details:

Whether you're a new skater or experienced on the ice, our program welcomes you for a season of skill-building, teamwork, and fun—all completely free of charge. Skates are provided.

Competitions:

 

There are local and state-level competitions. Opportunities to qualify for the Special Olympics World Games are held every four years in exciting locations around the globe.

Reqirements: 

 

 To participate, skaters must submit a completed Special Olympics Medical Form signed by a doctor. Forms are available upon request from Coach Lin Huber.
